Eugenia sp. "Mármore rubi preto"

New exciting catch in the shade Atlantic Rainforest in Southeastern Brazil, belonging to the section Racemosae (includes E. candolleana, E. velutina and E. florida, for example) of Eugenia. Probably a new, undescribed species. Its fruits are very big (see photos) and mature from burgundy red to nearly black when fully ripe. A single, round seed per fruit. Flavor is nice (sweet acid), requiring full maturation to be best appreciated. Pulp is aromatic and juicy.
