Annona cacans

Annona cacans, characterized by a spherical canopy of a treecrown, is a drops leaves annuallydeciduous tree that has the potential to grow up to 10 to 30 meters in height. Local inhabitants collect the fruit, which is edible and found in the wild.

This tree species is typically found in semi-drops leaves annuallydeciduous forests located in southern and eastern Brazil, as well as in coastal rainforests that range in elevation from sea level to 1500 meters. The plant prefers sunny positions, and its growth is fast, with heights reaching 4 meters or more within two years.

The fruit of Annona cacans is oblong and green in color, with a succulent, sweet, and aromatic flavor. When consumed in large amounts, the membrane near the seeds has a slight laxative effect. To improve germination, scraping, being abrasivescarification is required due to the hard outer layer of the seeds.
